FAQs
1. What is a merchant account?
A merchant account is a relationship
and a trust you have with a bank that has agreed to allow
you to charge people's credit card, while they honor it
and deposit the funds into your account. The bank
(our partner, United Bank Card)is responsible for debiting
the funds from the customer and depositing it into your
account. There must also be a processor involved that
processes the credit cards for the bank and lets them know
the funds are available. A merchant account is essentially
a line of credit extended to the merchant by a processor
and when you are given a merchant account, they are relying
on you to uphold your promises to your customers by delivering
the products and/or services to them in a timely manner.
2. What cards can I accept?
You
have the ability to accept all major credit cards,
including: Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover,
and Diners Club Cards. American Express, Discover, and
Diners Club all require separate applications and
are subject to their own terms and conditions.
3. What kind of equipment do I need?
The equipment required depends on the type of business
you’re establishing a merchant account for
and we offer recommendations for each processing
type:
a) Internet Processing – This requires a Virtual
terminal and payment gateway which is the secure line
that transmits your customer’s credit card
information over the Internet, from your website
to United Bankcard for verification. Our recommended
gateway provider is Authorize.net.
b) Retail Processing – This requires
a Point of Sale Hardware terminal which is used to
swipe your customer’s credit card and transmit
their information over a dedicated phone line for
authorization from your processor.
Our recommended terminal is Nurit 8320 which is free
with an approved application.
c) Mail/Telephone Order Processing – If
you accept credit cards over the phone or by mail,
the equipment will vary depending on your individual
needs. You can opt to go with a Point of Sale Hardware
terminal which can be used by manually entering your
customer’s
credit card information using the terminal’s
keypad. Our recommended terminal is the Nurit 8320
which is free with an approved application. You can
also go with a Virtual terminal and payment gateway
which you will access by way of login and password
using your PC and Internet connection. You will manually
enter in your customer’s credit
card info using a web form provided by your Virtual
terminal and submit. The info will transmit over
the Internet via the secure payment gateway and return
with an authorization or a decline. Our recommend
gateway provider is Authorize.net.
d) Wireless Processing – This requires a
Wireless POS terminal that acts much like a cell
phone in that it depends on a wireless network to
call out for authorizations. These terminals are
completely portable and can be used to accept credit
cards anywhere, at anytime. Our recommended wireless
terminal is the Nurit 8000.
4. How much of an initial investment am I looking
at?
The only initial investment
involved in setting up a merchant account is
your equipment cost. Unlike many processors, there is
no Application or Set-up Fee for the actual account and
your monthly rates and fees depend on which processing
type your business qualifies for. If your are a Retail
or MOTO business looking to use a POS terminal, we invite
you to take a look at the Nurit 8320 which is free with
an approved application.

Because your merchant account

is used to establish you as a real business and is the
foundation of your Processor’s relationship
with you.
