| 1. Look in the Address bar of your browser and make sure the site you are viewing is prefaced by https:// which means that the path is secure. | |
| 2. Look at the bottom right hand corner of your browser. If there is a lock icon, like the one below, then the site is secure. You may also click on the lock icon to view the certificate information for that web site. | |
| 3. View the certificate. By double clicking the lock icon you can view the information of the secure certificate. It verifies that the certificate was installed properly and issued by a Verified Certification Authority. The Certification Authority performs a number of checks to verify the identity of the business requesting the certificate such as domain name, articles of incorporation and other validation procedures. | ![]() |
What is the difference between using Gazungle's shared certificate and purchasing my own?
| Gazungle's Certificate | Your Own Certificate |
All Gazungle web hosting accounts are equipped with Shared SSL at no charge. The main difference is that when you direct a customer to your checkout page, the path in the address bar is https://yoursite.gazungle.com whereas if you had your own certificate it would read https://www.yoursite.com. The security environment is the same in both cases, however some companies do prefer to have their domain displayed on their secure pages. |
Purchasing your own certificate would allow you to display https://www.yourdomain.com on your secure pages. You also own the certificate so if you decide to switch hosts you would simply reinstall the certificate with your new host. Costs for you own certificate vary depending on which company you purchase your certificate with. Keep in mind you do not have to purchase a certificate with a particular company. You should research the companies that offer such services and choose what is best for you. |
